Laurie sheridan
ARTIST BIO
Laurie Sheridan is an interdisciplinary artist based in the Hudson Valley region of New York, United States.
She grew up on the remains of her grandparents’ dairy farm, largely living off the land. This immersion in nature informed her understanding of a universal energy running through all things.
Her sculptures and monotypes explore a fantastical version of evolution. Sentient plant-animal hybrids challenge the order of things, in a future where humans acknowledge their correct place in the world. Harmony and environmental responsibility will result from the transformation that is possible within all of us.
Her sculptures have been exhibited in galleries, museums and sculpture parks internationally.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am an interdisciplinary artist based in the Hudson Valley region of New York. My art gives imaginative expression to the values of harmony with nature and environmental responsibility. It is grounded in the belief in a universal energy running through all things.
Nature and the energetic world are my inspirations. I strive to make the invisible visible. Exploring the collective unconscious results in finding ancient symbols that resonate today. I am interested in the intersection of primordial energy and evolution possibilities.
I imagine a future where nature increases its range and power to the point where humans willingly defer to it. Experiences with neo-paganism and public ritual have informed my work, and have helped me realize energy as a tangible form. My creations stand ready to reanimate and restore what has been lost. They exist in a state of transformation with all possibilities present, from birth to death to regeneration.
